How could I check web traffic? What is the diferrence on Alexa Traffic?

Is there any free software available that is free to check web traffic and what is difference on Alexa traffic ranking

Alexa only calculates those who have downloaded the Alexa toolbar. It is not accurate and should not be used to check web traffic.
