Internal Linking

An internal link is a hyper link to another section of the same document, or simply a link to one webpage to another webpage within same domain. During any SEO process we give additional importance to backlinks or inbound links. To some extend this is also true that number of inbound links matters a lot for good ranking. But we should not forget that good internal linking structures in website will not only help in search engine ranking, but most importantly it will make website “user-friendly”, and easily accessible for the information it contains.

So let us look at some briefs on the benefits of Internal linking::

1. Proper Indexing of pages
A good internal linking structure can help in proper indexing of webpages in the website.

2. Help in promoting new offers.
Promotion of any new offer can be placed to any of the page in website, providing link which
redirect to the page have detailed information about the offer.

3. Increase the scope for using keywords
The smartly used keywords or key phrases as text to link for navigation can provide better
keyword density per page. Also viewer seeking information on websites are likely to click a
link with keyword that matches the information he is looking for.

4. Improving internal pages PageRank
Generally search engines follow some algorithm, and they give priorities based on the
importance of the links directed from the home page. The lesser number of clicks required
for navigating a page from home page, the more importance is given to that page by search engines. Hence by choosing a structured way of links you can get a better internal pagerank.

Based on various factors and the way search engines crawls a webpage, there are some popular ways of doing internal linking:
They are –

·          A horizontal navigation bar for website on the top of the page. As search engines crawls a webpage from left to right from top to bottom, this is one of most significant place to put links.

·          A navigation column for a particular category in left hand side of webpage. This makes navigation easy & “user-friendly”.

·          Using Text link instead of images is more helpful. Make sure that you are using the targeted keywords in text links, keeping the spamming issue in view.

·          A group of internal links can also place at bottom of webpages, as footers. But mostly bulk f keywords their will spam the website.

Hence not only the external links but also the internal links plays a vital role in a proper optimizing of a website. Excess of anything is disadvantage, so do it safely and smartly.

How do I link to a specific answer (internal linking) in Yahoo Answers?
    Like this for example:
    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArAuLbYdznW8jQoQLe1kMkDsy6IX?qid=20070826085408AA5g73T
where the questioner has linked to one of her answers. Follow the link above to see what I mean, it links to an answer down the page (internal link) rather than the question.
I also need to be able to do this for a question I want to ask :)
    Thanks in advance :)

What you need to do is grab that link from the top of the page IMMEDIATELY after you enter your answer. Watch when you finish entering your answer — the page goes TO your answer. If you have already answered the question, go back and EDIT your question (no need to actually change it, just use the link to go to your answer and come back out. Then, grab the URL from the address bar at that time.
