Will I increase my Web Traffic if I only Link out to other sites?

Just wondering if this will increase traffic to my site? I’m new to this and don’t know all the details. But if I add a few links to my site that leads to other same category websites, will it increase my Traffic or Page Ranking?

Some tips on linking:

1 – Your goal is to have OTHER sites link to you. The more QUALITY sites linking to your site, then you have the chance to get traffic two ways: clicks from visitors of those site; and better search engine ranking.

If search engines see that a lot of quality — sites in your niche, and authority sites (think CNN, Washington Post, NY Times), then search engines are likely to rank you better for your keywords

2. Link ONLY to sites in your niche. If your site is about penguins, do not ever link to sites such as credit repair or other sites that has nothing to do with penguins. You’ll be penalized by the search engines

3. Use social bookmarking sites such as Twitter, Digg, del.i.cious and Stumbleupon — they are easier to get a link (just create an account, post your link)

4. CONTENT, CONTENT AND CONTENT — the better your content, the easier it would be to get other sites to link to you

Free ways to increase web traffic?

I recently started a website (becomemyownboss.com) and am unsure about the different free ways to increase my web traffic. I already submitted my url to Yahoo and Google but are there free services that can help?

Getting traffic is a combination of a lot of things. The key to success is to create great content that visitors want to use, search engines will love and other websites will naturally link to. Of course, it’s easier said than done.

You can use pay per click advertising in the search engines to reach audiences looking for your products. You can use Google Adwords http://www.google.com/adwords or Yahoo http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com

Here are some shoestring marketing ideas that can help you get the visitors you need at the least cost possible:

1. Create the best content you can with the best products you can possibly offer. Your content is your best advertisement – if visitors love your content, then they will go back and spread the word to others.

2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important — and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more – that’s additional traffic that you get for FREE!

Recommend Site Scripts (various) http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Big Nose Bird Recommend this Site http://bignosebird.com/carchive/birdcast.shtml
CGI Resource Index http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Hostscripts http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Site_Recommendation/index.html

3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area.

4. Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as $650 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News.

5. Submit articles. Write articles and submit them to websites accepting author submissions. You get exposure for your business; establishes you as an authority in your field, and allows you to get backlinks for your website. If 50 websites publish your article and it contains a link back to your website, then you easily get 50 links from a single article. The more links you have, the greater your chances for increasing your search engine rankings.

6. Post a link to your site for free where it is allowed (always read the Terms of Use). Examples are:

Google Base http://base.google.com
Classifieds for Free http://www.classifiedsforfree.com/…
Text Link Exchange http://www.txtswap.com/

Link Building for Effective Search Engine Optimization

When you begin the task of acquiring quality and relevant backlinks to your website there are many factors that can increase or decrease your search engine rankings. This article outlines the difference between good and bad backlinks.

A quality backlink pointing to your site should be in the same category and relevant in content to your website. The page where your link is located should be indexed by Google and the page should also have a Google page rank. The webpage where your link is located should also contain no more than 30 other out-going links to other websites. Link pages with more than 30 out-going links are less relevant to the search engines. Having your link posted on this type of webpage can affect your search engine rankings in a negative way. Other excellent techniques of acquiring backlinks are directory submissions, posting articles, blogs and forums.

For directory submissions select the proper directory category and take a look at how many other websites are contained in the category where your link would be posted, if you can manage to get on the first or second page of the listings, this is a quality backlink. Also look at the Google page rank of the landing page for your link. If the page has a Google page rank this is also a quality backlink.

Stay within your category, relevant content is very important to the search engines. Write an article preferably relevant in content to your website and submit the article to high quality article directories. Blogs are an excellent way to get quality one-way backlinks, Blog sites also receive tons of traffic, which in turn give your site more exposure. Posting your link on forum pages is also an efficient method of aquiring backlinks instantly.

Backlinks to avoid would be a zero page ranked webpage, especially if the home page has a zero page rank. Links posted within framed webpages which will also steal your traffic. Especially avoid link farms, webpages which contain more than 100 unrelated outgoing links, This type of link page is frowned upon by many major search engines. Avoid Webpages with mirror sites containing the exact same content with a different URL, also pages that utilize redirects and URL cloaking. Never post your link on a webpage that contains a “no follow” or “no index” robots meta tag within the source code. Dynamic websites with question marks in the URL should be avoided because they are not always indexed by the search engines.

Avoid posting your link on a page that opens very slow or contains mostly ads and flash banners. Try not to aquire or purchase great numbers of backlinks in a short period of time, backlinks should be accumulated gradually. Also avoid webpages and directories that list their results in alphabetical order, as their database increases your link could be moved to a less relevant page with less pagerank. Quality backlinks are one of the most important factors involved in the process of acheiving high search engine ranking.

How to improve my website traffic?

I have a website thats a little over a month old. At first the traffic was steadily increasing. Now I’m hardly getting any hits at all. I’ve tried submitting articles, sighned up to directories and search engines, put videos on youtube and have participated in places such as blogcatalog. Those that have seen my site and blog really liked it yet still I’m hardly getting any traffic? What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it ?

Wow! You’ve been busy!

You are definitely on the right track. Submitting articles, signing up for key directories and search engines, posting videos on YouTube and participating in blogging and social media are all great activities for increasing your traffic.

First of all, it’s important to understand that these strategies take some time. What you’re doing is building inbound links, which work because, when search engines find all these links to your site, they figure you must be important and rank you higher than other sites. When you think of it that way, it’s obvious that there’s going to be lag time between your link-building activities and the accompanying increase in traffic.

You should keep all this up and trust the process. Meanwhile, take a look at your content and make sure people won’t be disappointed by what they find. No amount of link building will save a site that is scattered, disorganized or hard to use.

Last, but not least, keep an eye on your web traffic. Oftentimes, you can mine your site stats to figure out what’s working and what isn’t. That should help you refine your strategy going forward.

Keep up the good work, and good luck!
