Will I increase my Web Traffic if I only Link out to other sites?
Just wondering if this will increase traffic to my site? I’m new to this and don’t know all the details. But if I add a few links to my site that leads to other same category websites, will it increase my Traffic or Page Ranking?
Some tips on linking:
1 – Your goal is to have OTHER sites link to you. The more QUALITY sites linking to your site, then you have the chance to get traffic two ways: clicks from visitors of those site; and better search engine ranking.
If search engines see that a lot of quality — sites in your niche, and authority sites (think CNN, Washington Post, NY Times), then search engines are likely to rank you better for your keywords
2. Link ONLY to sites in your niche. If your site is about penguins, do not ever link to sites such as credit repair or other sites that has nothing to do with penguins. You’ll be penalized by the search engines
3. Use social bookmarking sites such as Twitter, Digg, del.i.cious and Stumbleupon — they are easier to get a link (just create an account, post your link)
4. CONTENT, CONTENT AND CONTENT — the better your content, the easier it would be to get other sites to link to you

Bookmark it for More Profit
I want to touch on the subject of Social Bookmarking and its implications in helping creating backlinks. Even though Latent Semantic Indexing is the buzz word now a days, we cannot forget backlinks. Think of backlinks as the rope that holds the tent (your site) to the internet. Time and time again I have seen the life of a site diminish if it is not supported by backlinks. I can launch a site, place a blog on the site get it indexed, making money, but 6 months later I lose a portion of my indexing thus, losing a portion of my site portfolio. Those few extra minutes taken per site to create backlinks is pivotal to your online success as you build up your empire.
Social bookmarking has been popular for quite some time and wasnt brought the mainstream until lately. Social bookmarking was sold a cure all for getting your sites indexed and getting great traffic, which can happen, but it is far from a magic bullet.
Social Bookmarking sites such as Furl.com, Technorati.com, Stumbleupon.com, Delicous, Spurl , Article Tag, and Backflip just to name a few. Social Bookmarking is extremely easy, just create and account and bookmark your favorite page. These pages are then available on the bookmarking sites. But what is the REAL benefit of bookmarking?
If you bookmark a site when you first build your site, social bookmarking will bring spiders to your sites, such as Inktomi, Yahoos spider, they cache your pages and release them over a period of time. Social booking places a specific importance of your site if it is seen on many different platforms, thus creating indexing and ranking for your keywords.
You can bookmark every single page of your site if you wanted, although this is very time consuming with out automated software, it may raise flags and sometimes will result in the deletion of your account. Technorati is not to fond of this practice however, sites such as Furl seem to be a little more lenient if you decide to use an automated tool to bookmark.
For indexing, simply bookmarking your home page is enough to bring the spiders. The key when bookmarking is to use a popular keyword for your niche to attract as many visitors as possible. This is if you are trying to get traffic to your site initially. Again the key is to not rely on visitors from the Bookmarking sites, but placing your sites in the spiders view so your site will get crawled, indexed and ranked.
The best way to use social booking is to strengthen the terms you are trying to rank for. For example, lets say you have a site on scuba diving. You see there is not a lot of competition for scuba diving lessons in MN and you write and article center around this keyword. The next step is to bookmark you site with Scuba Diving Lessons in MN. This will tell the spiders that your page is about this specific keyword and will help with the ranking of your site. Again this is not magic, but does provide a small boost and automatically creates backlinks to your sites.
In Delicious, the more people that save your site to their settings the higher your ranking. Delicous has a favorites listing, which also appears on many other websites. So if you get your site bookmarked and people show interest, then you can bet on receiving 200 visitors in one day. Is this realistic all the time? Only with extremely popular niches, however, the more popular a niche is the more competitive it is to rank for your keywords.
When building a mass number of sites, it is best to build, bookmark and move on. As the age old saying goes, results may vary, which they do. In scanning my results for bookmarking, I have noticed that the Advertising Niche is extremely popular and should result in many visits, but again, the market is finicky and there are trends and seasons to specific searches. To lesson your frustration, it is best to use this as a tool and move on to other promotional methods such as Article Marketing and Blogging and Pinging. The key is to keep it simple and not put all your hope in one method.
The truth is, social bookmarking works, and if you land the right keyword for your niche, then you can count on hits to your sites. I personally do not rely on visits from an social bookmarking site, I just use this as a tool for indexing and if I get visitors, great, if not, it took me no time to do this and I move on the my next site, knowing that I creating anchors for my tent (site) in the search engines. Remember backlinks show popularity, the more important your site seems, the better staying power you will have in Yahoo, MSN and the all finicky Google. Never forget that. Promotion is key!

Free ways to increase web traffic?
I recently started a website (becomemyownboss.com) and am unsure about the different free ways to increase my web traffic. I already submitted my url to Yahoo and Google but are there free services that can help?
Getting traffic is a combination of a lot of things. The key to success is to create great content that visitors want to use, search engines will love and other websites will naturally link to. Of course, it’s easier said than done.
You can use pay per click advertising in the search engines to reach audiences looking for your products. You can use Google Adwords http://www.google.com/adwords or Yahoo http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com
Here are some shoestring marketing ideas that can help you get the visitors you need at the least cost possible:
1. Create the best content you can with the best products you can possibly offer. Your content is your best advertisement – if visitors love your content, then they will go back and spread the word to others.
2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important — and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more – that’s additional traffic that you get for FREE!
Recommend Site Scripts (various) http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Big Nose Bird Recommend this Site http://bignosebird.com/carchive/birdcast.shtml
CGI Resource Index http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Hostscripts http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Site_Recommendation/index.html
3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area.

4. Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as $650 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News.

5. Submit articles. Write articles and submit them to websites accepting author submissions. You get exposure for your business; establishes you as an authority in your field, and allows you to get backlinks for your website. If 50 websites publish your article and it contains a link back to your website, then you easily get 50 links from a single article. The more links you have, the greater your chances for increasing your search engine rankings.
